The Dirty Car

I would have liked to comment on my DC trip here, but 1) i'm pledging to stay true to Ann Arbor news, and 2) my friend srah did quite the comprehensive job already, so... on to an actual news item: the dirty car.

I went to the automatic car wash today to finally wash off all the dirt, grime, and salt (watch it snow tomorrow...) and so i went down the street and got in line to be washed. Ahead of me was a sign apologizing for service taking an extra long time because of all the extra dirt winter brings with it. Next to the sign, in front of me getting prepared for the washers, was a car that made that sign look like the biggest understatement ever. Why?

Because the car was completely colored brown with dirt. It was so dirty it looked like someone dipped it in milk chocolate and was driving it around to advertise the upcoming Easter candy season. It was so dirty that i couldn't see the license plate, nor the raised metal Oldsmobile badging until the attendants power-washed the mud off.

What were these people doing? Maybe they were mud-wrestling with their car, or maybe they read that mudbaths keep cars' paint jobs young and healthy-looking. In any case, the car looked fine after it left the wash -- makes me feel like i didn't get my entire $6.00 worth... but i'm darn sure that my car is clean!

Yay for blogging.

Thanks -- my blog was probably getting lonely without me (at least it has you and Ursula to keep it company with your comments) :)

I loved getting my car washed - especially when I didn't have to be in it because then I could marvel at how pretty my car looked when clean

I know -- i love to walk around my car a few times after its been washed, admiring the outside which i hardly ever see (as the driver). Incidentally, my dad used to say all the time that when selecting a new car, the car's exterior looks are for everybody else because 90% of the time all the owner/driver sees is the inside, and mostly the steering wheel -- "so get a car with a good looking steering wheel" ;)

I got my grandma's car washed yesterday... and then it rained/snowed.

I remember realizing just how ugly my car was a few times when I drove that old '87 Chrystler Town & Country Station Wagon..... I never saw it except when getting in it and I sometimes forgot that I drove a hideous car. Of course, that was only for a little while because some old guy pulled out in front of me and I crashed into him, getting rid of the thing.

Well it definitely did snow...grrr winter is back!

Posted by: cari at March 8, 2004 09:54 PM

I knew it -- less than 24 hours after i got the car washed. The Weather Channel should just follow the car wash places; whenever we get our cars washed, they can forecast it as ready to snow...

$6 for a car wash! Where'd you go? I got ripped off. I paid $10--well, they washed interior and exterior. But everytime I go, they do a really crappy interior job. It's Big Daddy's car wash on s. industrial---I would not recommend them.

Posted by: tbone at March 9, 2004 06:38 PM

At my place they'll wash the interior too -- they just tell you to roll down your windows first :)

But seriously, i go to a place on Main Street, a block or two north of Hill St., near that MarketPlace area (where they sell fresh bread and other 'high-quality' stuff). And $6.00 is even the Silver package (not bronze, although bronze costs like 50 cents less or whatever). They sorta have dirty rags that they dry the car off with, but overall i'm satisfied -- i've gone there twice so far...

Thats really near my house

Posted by: Urs at March 10, 2004 09:26 AM

Really? Is it near the Cingular place? We may live near each other, b/c the car wash is like 4 blocks from my apt....

Posted by: MaTT at March 10, 2004 09:50 PM

Are we living in MaTT's comments now, then?

Posted by: srah at March 11, 2004 12:29 AM

This is pretty awesome -- i've never had 13 comments before... :) Of course, Srah's probably saying "i get that all the time. And i even started these comments... What's he bragging about?" But, I'm so tired after that SIMPLE networking event -- trying to make it seem like you're interested in what potential employers are saying is so draining... ;)

i get that all the time. And i even started these comments... What's he bragging about?

MaTT is PSYCHIC! "Oh my God!"

Posted by: srah at March 11, 2004 11:19 PM

I guess i am psychic -- oh my god! ("Righty-o" then...)

Posted by: MaTT at March 12, 2004 12:14 AM

I live less than 2 blocks north and one block east of that place! Thats where I got my phone :] But be careful, with nothing to do, I might start bothering you ALL THE TIME! Except when I want to sit in my house and be lazy.... which happens quite a bit

Posted by: Urs at March 12, 2004 12:27 PM

Th'art boring. I demand bloggage!

Posted by: srah at March 16, 2004 09:07 AM
